‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Gets Teaser

HBO has debuted a trailer and release date for the first new Game of Thrones series in three years, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The clip premiered at New York Comic Con on Oct. 9, teasing the six-episode season set to premiere Jan. 18. The series will star Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall, or Dunk.
HBO describes the series, “A century before the events of Game of Thrones,” when “Two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros … a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
The series’ co-creator and author of the original Game of Thrones books, George R.R. Martin told Entertainment Weekly he’s thrilled with season one. “Nobody is thinking about magic,” he told the publication about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. “This could basically be 14th century Britain,” he said. “This is hard nose, grind it out, gritty, medieval knights, cold with a really light, hopeful touch. It’s a wonderful place to be. We are ground up in this series, we are starting right at the bottom. We’re not with the lords and ladies, the kings and queens.” The forthcoming season adapts its storyline form “The Hedge Knight”, the first novella from Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that the cast of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will include Edward Ashley as Ser Steffon Fossoway, Youssef Kerkour as Steely Pate, Daniel Monks as Ser Manfred Dondarrion, Shaun Thomas as Raymun Fossoway, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor as Plummer, Danny Webb as Ser Arlan of Pennytree, and Henry Ashton as Daeron Targaryen.
