Charli XCX Filmed Movie ‘Erupcja’ With Jeremy O. Harris in Poland

Charli XCX will go from Brat star to movie star next year. Variety revealed Monday that the Brat singer will star in the Pete Ohs-directed movie Erupcja, which filmed in Poland over the summer. She’ll act alongside Jeremy O. Harris and Lena Góra.

“The way [Ohs] talked about making his films felt akin to making an album and the chance meeting also felt equivalent to the conversational and spontaneous nature of his filmmaking,” Charli XCX said of the film. “Our processes felt linked in some kind of way and it felt right and exciting to pursue some kind of collaboration.”

The movie tells the story of two friends with a fiery relationship as an American woman named Bethany (Charli) who travels to Warsaw to visit her Polish friend, played by Góra. Also starring in the film will be Will Madden.

“Charli is an excellent actress,” Ohs said. “She is a performer. She understands what it’s like to have a camera pointed at her. She understands how to convey things through all the different ways in which we communicate, whether it’s with body language or your voice or your facial expressions.”

“She had a scene where she cried, without being asked — she could deliver all the goods,” Ohs added. “She’s a legit actress. I am proud of us for making a movie this way during Brat summer.”

The new film is expected to be a “city movie” with Warsaw being a character itself in the film. Oh said he wasn’t upset when news of the film leaked on X in August, saying it “was fun to see that happening.” They even filmed a scene in a nightclub as people believed Charli might be playing music from Brat.

“[Charli] definitely got recognized a bunch of times,” Ohs said. “She was always really sweet. She took selfies with many a Polish fan …”

“Which is also how our secret project got leaked,” added Harris.

Ohs and Harris connected with Charli in May when they bumped into each other at a bar in New York, before the pop star admitted she “wanted to do one” of his films. “I was like, ‘What are you doing in August? Want to come to Warsaw?’” Ohs explained.

Along with Erupcja, Charli is set to star in several other films in the coming year, including Faces of Death with Barbie Ferreira, I Want Your Sex with Olivia Wilde, and 100 Nights of Hero with Emma Corrin.
