Billy Ray Cyrus Speaks Out After Son Issues ‘Get Help’ Letter

Following Billy Ray Cyrusâ whisper-toned performance at the Liberty Inaugural Ball Jan. 20, a family member and online fans have expressed concern for the country star. Cyrus took the mic again, this time to spread a message of âhealing.â He shared a music video to his 2009 track, âSomebody Said a Prayerâ featuring his son, Trace Cyrus, who has been outspoken around his fatherâs mental and physical health.
âSunday callin,â the elder Cyrus wrote in the caption of a YouTube video posted on Sunday. âGiving thanks for the California Rain. Praying for the brokenhearted and their pain. Praying for my family. For my children⌠sons and daughters⌠and their mother. Let this moment be the start of healing for us all. The past does not equal the future. Amen.â
In an open letter published last week, Trace Cyrus wrote that his father is someone âI barely recognize now.â Trace Cyrus, who is an adopted son to Billy Ray, added that his sisters Miley and Noah have shared similar concern for the star. Although Trace Cyrus admitted to not knowing what his father was âstruggling with,â he shared that he had been sober from alcohol for more than a year and a half and was willing to help his father.
âYouâre not healthy Dad & everyone is noticing it,â Trace Cyrus wrote in an Instagram post. âJust like I showed up for you at mamaws funeral when you didnât expect me to Iâm still here right now. As I write this with tears in my eyes I hope you realize this message only comes from a place of love and also fear that the world may lose you far too soon.â
In a post made over the weekend, Trace Cyrus alleged that his father had threatened him with legal action after sharing his heartfelt message to help. His sisters Miley and Noah, have yet to make a public statement surrounding their fatherâs health. âI will always love you but I no longer respect you as a man,â Trace Cyrus wrote in the post. âEveryone close to you is terrified to tell you how they really feel. Iâm not. Get help.â
The concerned post stemmed from the country artistâs Jan. 20 performance where he faced several technical difficulties. Viewers watched as the country artist mouthed the words to Lil Nas Xâs âOld Town Road,â with a muted microphone and guitar. Then, Cyrus meandered across the stage singing in a low voice to âAchy Breaky Heart,â his 1992 hit. Online users called the country artistâs performance a  âtrain wreckâ and an âepic disaster.â Cyrus, on the other hand, seemed unfazed by online critics, in a Jan. 21 post.
âI had a ball at the Liberty Ball last night and Iâve learned through all these years when the producer says âyouâre on,â you go entertain the folks even if the equipment goes to hell,â he said in his Instagram post. âI was there for the people and we had a blast. Thatâs called rock n roll!!!â
