Billy Ray Cyrus Reacts to Miley Cyrus’ Engagement to Maxx Morando

Billy Ray Cyrus is celebrating his daughter Miley Cyrus’ engagement to Maxx Morando.

“No wonder you turned out so special, you have the greatest godmother in the world!!!” Billy Ray, 64, captioned an Instagram photo with Miley, 33, and Dolly Parton on Wednesday, December 3. “So happy you and MaxxAgazillion found each other!!!! Congratulations!”

He concluded, “Happy to see you both so happy!!! Love, Dad ❤️.”

Miley subtly revealed her engagement Monday, December 1, when she and Morando, 27, jointly attended the premiere of Avatar: Fire And Ash. As the couple walked the red carpet, Miley flashed her gold engagement ring for the cameras.

Morando proposed to Miley earlier this year, when the couple traveled to Asia.

“I actually had never gone to Japan, which, I did that purposefully,” the “Flowers” singer said on Wednesday’s episode of Good Morning America. “I wanted one place in the world that could be my special place that I saved for me. I am not easy to surprise because I love to control every situation, and I had completely surrendered. And I’m telling you, I was so, so surprised.”

Miley further gushed that the drummer “did good” when it came to picking out a ring, a 14-carat cushion-cut diamond set on a gold band designed by Jacquie Aiche.

Miley and Morando have been together since 2021.

“Me and Maxx have been together for four years, and it’s very obvious the drastic amount of growth that I’ve had in those four years … and that really, a lot of that is because I have a great partner,” the Grammy winner gushed to GMA of her relationship. “You just want to dream the biggest you can, and you want to have someone by your side that always tells you you can do it.”

Miley was previously married to her The Last Song love interest, Liam Hemsworth, from 2018 to 2020.

“Miley never thought she would get married again, and Maxx changed everything for her,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly after the engagement news broke. “They have a really healthy and private relationship.”

While Miley and Morando primarily keep their relationship private, the pop star has been candid about why they work so well.

“[Maxx] will be 27 when I turn 33, which I’m so excited for him to turn 27 ‘cause that was such a great year for me,” Miley told mom Tish Cyrus on her “Sorry We’re Cyrus” podcast in June, referring to the couple’s age difference. “I’m just hoping that, as long as he follows in my footsteps, everything is going to be great. That’s right when I started turning my life around.”

Miley further explained why she and Morando were such a good fit.

“He’s a Scorpio [and] so is his grandfather, that’s what makes Maxx just so cool because he can sting,” she said, citing their astrological compatibility. “Like, very cool [and they] think that they’re little angels until it turns around and they got a sting. I couldn’t be with someone [who] doesn’t sting. They would have been toast already.”

Billy Ray and ex-wife Tish, 58, share Miley, Braison and Noah. The “Achy Breaky Heart” also adopted Tish’s two oldest children, Brandi and Trace, from a previous relationship. While the family had been estranged after Billy Ray and Tish’s divorce in 2022, they managed to reconcile earlier this year.
