The skateboarding icon Bam Margera was probably in town with Jackass in tow for a session at Scott Adams Skatepark Kingsport, Tennessee, with Oliver Steele-this year’s prodigious contestant on American Idol. In an oddly awe-inspiring lighthearted capture, it reinforced Margera’s undying love for skate culture and his fellow budding talents. According to a twist of fate, the visit took a barren strange turn, with kangaroos haphazardly hopping around, thereby making the whole Tennessee meetup a nightmare of surrealism.

Margera humorously mused, while really maybe half-seriously, halfway through the American Idol competition about Steele risking it all: “Well, you’re on American Idol, and if you break that hand, then you’re not going to be able to do any kind of whammy bar tricks on that guitar.” Steele chuckled and responded, “I won’t be able to play anything on your guitar if I bust my hand. My band will be pissed. My producer will be pissed.”

The conversation continued as Margera savored sighting the unusual. Distinctly unfazed he says, “And there’s just a random kangaroo.” Asked if the kangaroos make for nice playmates, he driftingly implied, “Yeah, we have four English Goldies,” which referred to Golden Retriever, before he hurriedly went, “Oh wow. This is incredible. So random.”

This abrupt inclusion of the bizarre distracted the eyes of the viewers so very well. One user summed up the reaction correctly in saying, “God bless random kangaroos.” Another local appeared almost half-jesting, “Damn my hometown has Bam Margera come to the skatepark and there is fckin kangaroo just chilling too? This is my sign to start skating again.”

Then came another voice of skepticism. “Lol I’m in Kingsport yet never saw a kangaroo.. 😂” it doubted while indirectly questioning if the meet-up was a mere one-off event rather than a scene they witness in Tennessee every day.

Though it was largely overshadowed by the kangaroo’s appearance, the meet-up itself was still buzzworthy. Jared P. Jones tagged Oliver Steele, one and all with excitement, with the remark, “this is so sick dude,” expressing excitement over this genre-mismatched hangout. The show of support got a little heavier by some, philosopher tempering others’ view of Margera’s new phase: “Sometimes we wonder whether we see what we are going through or compare to what someone else is going thru. I see a man enjoying his life. Whatever he chooses!”

Then came some practical questions as well, many wondering how long Margera would stay in town. “How long will you stay in kingsport?” one user writes. Another comes up with, “How long you gonna be in Tennessee? I’m gonna be in Kentucky,” clearly hoping for some sort of meet-up.

For the locals, the visit was monumental. Reaper_.sb added, “Damn thats my skatepark bro,” and subsequent comments confirmed it to be Scott Adams Skatepark. Other locals weighed in with more suggestions, with plumbingjohnny chiding, “Enjoy this part of Tennessee bro!! Make sure to stop by Pals they got great burgers in the area that way!”

The session was about more than skating and random kangaroos. It was about respect. Etched126, who claimed to have met Margera that day, stated, “The random kangaroo wanted to skate lol. It was a pleasure meeting you man,” which underlines the down-to-earth nature of the meeting.

Bam Margera flying into Kingsport with an American Idol star and inopportune marsupial is a reminder with child-like innocence of his ever-expanding presence with his unpredictable charm. Be it skating or collabing or just looking at all the weirdness go on around him, somebody pronto would want to make memories with Margera that straddle the line between reality and spectacle.
