Hilary Duff Performs ‘What Dreams Are Made of’ for First Time Ever
Have you ever seen such a beautiful night? During her tour launch in London, a.k.a. her first concert since 2015, Hilary Duff performed âWhat Dreams Are Made ofâ for the first time ever.
Held at O2 Shepherdâs Bush Empire, Duffâs 17-song set list contained gems from her catalog (âWake Up,â âCome Cleanâ), plus tracks off her upcoming album Luck âŚor Something. She closed with a triumphant âWhat Dreams Are Made of,â from 2003âs The Lizzie McGuire Movie.
In a recent interview with Therapuss, Duff told Jake Shane that she doesnât even remember recording the Disney song, since she was only 14 at the time. âBut I will say, now I love it,â she said. âAnd when I was filming the movie, I loved it. It was just a weird time, and it wasnât technically my song. It was a Lizzie McGuire song.â
She added, âWhen I sing it now, I feel a lot of joy. I just think there was such a separation back then of me and my music and Lizzie McGuire. I didnât really get to perform that song live, because I didnât own it. But if I would ever tour again, I think maybe I would be allowed to manage to sing that song somehowâŚ.some way. Maybe, maybe. Hypothetically.â
Duff will release Luck âŚor Something, her first album in over a decade, on Feb. 20 via Atlantic. She co-produced it with her husband, musician Matthew Koma, and Brian Phillips. Sheâs released two singles from the album so far: âMatureâ and âRoommates.â Sheâll continue her Small Rooms, Big Nerves Tour in Toronto on Jan. 24, before heading to the States for more shows (including a Las Vegas residency).
âI am often asked how I still have my head on straight after growing up in this industry,â Duff said, upon announcing Luck âŚor Something. âThe album title is my way of answering that question. Itâs luck, but thereâs also a lot of weight in the ââŚor somethingâ. Many of the things Iâve been through along the way are held there, and I feel like ultimately thatâs whatâs shaped me.â
