‘Me and Baby Broke Up’

Devon Walker revealed that he is leaving Saturday Night Live ahead of the showâs Season 51 premiere. Taking to social media on Monday, he wrote that âme and baby broke upâ and compared âjobs in this industryâ to âa bunch of little marriages.â
In an Instagram post, the comedian continued his marital analogy, âSome of em last for a long time if weâre lucky, but most of them are fleeting. Permanent until theyâre not. Thatâs the deal. You know what it is it when you sign up.â
He mused, âMe and the show did three years together, and sometimes it was really cool. Sometimes it was toxic as hell. But we did what we made the most of what it was, even amidst all of the dysfunction. We made a fucked up lil family.â
He continued, âMore than anything, Iâm just really happy I got to do it with Gary and Alex. Niggas really went from running a bar show to working together at 30 rock! Itâs a beautiful thing.â Before wrapping his post, Walker concluded: âAnyway, Iâm bout to go to Japan. When I get back Iâm tryna be in a prestige drama. Ideally something with Julianne Moore. Hope yâall staying hydrated and getting some money today.â
While itâs unclear if the actor is leaving the show by choice, he poked fun at the scenario and titled his note, âwait..did he quit or did he get fired?â In his Instagram announcement, he also included a screenshot of him texting âIâm outâ alongside an emoji with a party hat, a behind-the-scenes pic on the set of SNL, and an image of former president Joe Biden appearing to stumble when exiting a plane.
On his Instagram Stories, the comedian assured fans that it was âgood news,â adding, âit was just time for me to do something different please donât be hitting me with the âim so sorryâ we not on that at ALL.â Walker said that he would address the âwhole thingâ on his podcast, My Favorite Lyrics, soon.
Walkerâs news of his departure arrives after SNL creator Lorne Michaelsâ recent interview with Puck, where Michaels hinted that fans can expect major changes leading up to the premiere of Season 51 on Oct. 4. âItâll be announced in a week or so,â said Michael, noting that this upcoming season he feels âthe pressure to reinvent.â
