Olivia Rodrigo Releases ‘You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl in Love’

The superstar has finally released her highly anticipated third studio album
Don’t “drop dead” — Olivia Rodrigo has finally released her new album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. Fans have been anxiously awaiting the LP since the star first announced it back in April. You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love marks Rodrigo’s third album and first release in four years, following the massively successful Guts.
The album features 13 songs on a split tracklist, styled after a vinyl or cassette tape, that paints a chronological narrative about the dismantling of a romantic relationship. The first six tracks on the “Girl So in Love” side are anxiety-filled love songs, while the next seven are bruised cuts featured on the aptly titled “You Seem Pretty Sad” side.
Over the last two months, Rodrigo previewed both sides of You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love with the synth-forward lead single “Drop Dead” and its acoustic guitar-driven follow-up “The Cure,” along with bold music videos for each. The pop star ran through the Versailles in Paris for the “Drop Dead” video, while the visual for “The Cure” featured creative stop-motion elements as Rodrigo portrayed a nurse.
Besides the two official singles, the singer-songwriter also offered live previews of “Begged” and her Robert Smith collaboration “What’s Wrong With Me?” which she performed with the Cure frontman during Primavera Sound. The Cure and New Wave are huge sonic inspirations throughout the new album as Rodrigo incorporates Eighties synths and instrumentation.
In some ways, the You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love era is just getting started. This fall, Rodrigo will embark on her Unraveled world tour, a massive 65-date trek across North America and Europe.
